BIG WHEELS IN GENERAL

Once you get into inline skating, you'll discover that there are various wheel sizes ranging from 46 mm to 125 mm. In general, the type of skating will determine the wheel size you want. To keep it simple, the common skate setup includes four 80 mm wheels and "big wheel skates" are typically three 110 mm wheels. Skaters will refer to these set ups as 4x80 (four 80 mm wheels) or 3x110 (three 110 mm wheels), respectively.

The larger the wheel, the faster you will go. Big wheels are great for:

  • Long distance sessions as skaters will be able to accelerate and go further with relatively less effort

  • Urban skating as it’s easier to roll over debris. You hardly feel the road too, which is nice for uneven surfaces.

The downside is that big wheels are less maneuverable. In general, we dissuade beginners from starting out with big wheels. Also, the larger wheels are heavier so the overall weight is noticeably higher.

COMFORT

The FRX 310 is equipped with a super thick and well-cushioned liner, making them one of the most comfortable skates I have ever owned. The fit is super snug, and I can skate for a couple hours of them and not feel any pain! In terms of fit, Dee has small and wide feet and says they run a bit narrow. While many prefer to go with a tighter fit, Dee chooses to go up a size for the sake of comfort. She will compensate for space by doubling up on socks.

BOOT OVERVIEW

The FRX 310 is a hardshell boot, which offers more ankle support among many other benefits. A white side protector preserves the shell.

Almost all the parts are replaceable so you can maintain the skates for a long time or choose to customize them.

One cool feature of the FRX 310 is the wheels they come with, which have art on them! Typically skates are shipped with plain wheels, so it's refreshing to have different-looking wheels.

SIZING

Check out the manufacturer's size guide to identify the right size. As a general tip, every skate company has their own measurement guide, so it's best to look on their website for their size chart. We consider the FRX 310 to run narrow. If you are unsure about the size you should get, contact Knight Skate at +1(909)644-0104 for a recommendation. Getting in touch with an experienced and knowledgable skater is a huge benefit of buying your products from a local shop.

HEEL BRAKE

Like most big wheel skates, the FRX 310 does not come with a heel brake. You can, however, choose to purchase one by simply calling Knight Skate at +1(909)644-0104. The owner will ship it to you with the heel brake already installed. You just pay for the part ($20).
